Your brushing technique is important for maintaining a consistent oral hygiene routine

Maintaining good oral health is important for maintaining a high quality of life. With this in mind, the American Dental Association offers a series of recommendations and guidelines necessary for maintaining good oral health in the long term.

This starts with a consistent and effective daily oral hygiene routine founded on brushing your teeth twice each day and flossing once each day. This will help clean away plaque and bacterial food deposits. If they are not removed daily, it could increase your chances of suffering tooth decay and gum disease.

When brushing, you should use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a toothpaste formulated with micro-abrasives and fluoride. It’s best to brush each tooth in a small circle rather than saw the brush head back and forth. Ideally, it should take you two to three minutes to brush both your upper and lower teeth.

Of course, not all toothpastes are the same. Some brands fail to meet the American Dental Association’s rigorous standards. So, when shopping for a new toothpaste, you should always check the packaging for the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This small logo indicates that the product in question has been thoroughly researched and tested by the ADA laboratories for safety and effective use in an oral hygiene routine.

If you live in the Shokan, New York, area and you have concerns about your oral hygiene or you’re in need of a checkup, you should call 845-657-2322 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Victor Zeines at Woodstock & Manhattan Institute for Holistic Dentistry.
