Study 2 Diverse Options for Treating Periodontal Disease through the administration of antioxidant nutraceuticals: Martin Milner N.D. medical director Center for Natural Medicine Koukei Makise M.D. director University Imaging Center M.K. Williamson DDS, Phd, Faacp M. Thomas Murray DDS Robert Petrone DDS Michael P. Murphy DDS A study was conducted on both male and female patients, age group 28 to 72 with mild to acute periodontal disease to determine the effect of nutraceuticals as a treatment option. The study was a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, clinical trial. Patients were comprised of two test groups; one group of 27 males and 36 females suffering from mild periodontal microbial activity on gingival tissue. The second group was comprised of 21 males and 17 females suffering from acute periodontal disease. The results of the study in test case group one showed significant improvement in the patients who were administered Osteopro over the patients in the placebo group. In the first case, a study was conducted in the control group being divided, 32 men and woman were given Osteopro and 31 men and woman were given a placebo. At the end of 11 weeks, 68% of the active group showed significant overall periodontal improvement and 64% showed marked improvement in gingival tissue and increased antimicrobial activity. Immune system activity was significantly improved and the overall health of the patients was noticeably improved. In the group that was administered the placebo, no significant change was reported. To the contrary, 24% of the placebo group showed increased periodontal disease with increased microbial activity. In the second double blind placebo controlled clinical study, 19 patients were administered Osteopro and 19 patients given a placebo. The control who had been diagnosed with acute periodontal disease were administered the nutraceutical for a period of 16 weeks. At the end of the 16 week period 87% of the active group showed significant periodontal and overall health improvement. Immune system levels in the control group were reported as showing over 75% improvement. The placebo group showed decreases in the immune system and overall deterioration of the gingival tissue. The study confirmed that the administration of nutraceuticals of a type with antioxidant elements significantly effects the overall immune system and has a direct result in the antimicrobial activity. In conclusion the administered product. Osteopro improved the periodontal condition of the control group. |
